The active x-ray phosphor component of Rare Earth Blue screens is comprised of barium fluorobromide. This x-ray phosphor emits light in the blue and ultra violet portions of the light spectrum. The construction of these screens is specially designed to maximize useful life and minimize damage due to moisture and other common contaminants that may come in contact with the screen surface.

Rare Earth Blue screens are available in five types: Blue Rapid, Blue 800, Blue 400, Blue 100 and Blue Extremity.

BLUE RAPID

 This blue emitting rare earth screen is designed for special procedures. It has an approximate system speed of 1000-1200 when used with full speed blue sensitive film. This combination is recommended for studies that require the highest dosage reduction without regard to reduced radiographic detail.
BLUE 800

 This blue emitting rare earth screen has a relative system speed of 800 when used with full speed blue sensitive film. This combination is generally recommended for conditions where dosage reduction and “penetration” is of primary importance (e.g. lateral lumbar studies). When used with a half speed blue sensitive film the relative system speed is 400. This combination is recommended for general radiography.
BLUE 400

 This blue emitting rare earth screen has a relative system speed of 400 when used with full speed blue sensitive film. When used with a half speed blue film this screen has a relative system speed of 200. This versatile product can be used in both general radiography and in applications requiring high radiographic detail.
BLUE 100

 This blue emitting rare earth screen has a relative speed of 100 when used with full speed blue sensitive film. When used with a half speed blue film the relative system speed is approximately 50. This product is mainly recommended for extremity studies.
BLUE EXTREMITY

 This product consists of single Rare Earth Blue 100 screen paired with a black filler screen. When used with a single emulsion blue film a high degree of resolution is obtained for extremity studies.
